What to Do In This World When You Do Not Have Internet?

What to Do In This World When You Do Not Have Internet? Make a Living from Home in 2017

Two guys from AT&T were here today (yesterday) and were going to dig down my fiber cable from the Internet installation last Friday.

If you read my prior blog post:

Comcast – the Internet Devil Itself

you know that I cancelled my subscription with Comcast because they are constantly, and with no reasonable explanation, increasing the bills each month.

I started with a monthly subscription of $63 and am now up in $229. Insane!

Anyhow, the guys from AT&T messed up my internet and they did not have any technician available to come and fix it until tomorrow, so now I am without an internet connection and I am panicking!

What the Heck Did We Do Before the
World Wide Web Era?

What did we do instead of being online surfing, checking emails, checking what is going on in our social media’s and for me, and many others, WORKING; designing websites, writing content, preparing an e-commerce business and so forth?!

See my recent article on:

How to Sell on Amazon for Beginners – Follow My Journey Private Labeling a Product to Sell on Amazon

What to Do In This World When You Do Not Have Internet? Make a Living from Home in 2017Right know, because I am panicking to be losing out on valuable time working and earning my income, I cannot even remember how it was before the Internet was invented.

That is also a bit scary! To know that we now are so “addicted” and in need of an internet connection to be able to do ANYTHING (almost) is very frightening and pretty life suppressing.

Think back (if you are old enough) to the time when we did not have cell phones and could not be in touch if we were not physically at home and close to a landline.

We called our friends, but often no one was home to pick up at the other end and we had to patiently wait and try again, or hope for a call back.

Today, we are constantly available and connected, which in fact is very stressful to many.

Create a Habit Going Offline a Moment Each Day

I have made a deal with myself to sometime during the day leave the phone behind and not be online and connected to the “virtual world”. To not go insane, I have to escape the beeping from a text coming in, another beep when a follower posts a tweet on Twitter, and a third beep when someone writes me on Facebook messenger, a forth from WhatsApp – you get the picture.

As fun as it may be, it easily becomes too much! I need time to relax from everything.

How Freaking Sad Is This?!

What to Do In This World When You Do Not Have Internet? Make a Living from Home in 2017

When we now have touched base on social media, I see so many depressing examples of people unable to socialize in the present. I guess this is another backside of Internet’s enormous possibilities and never ending things to “browse” after and devote time to.

I bet you have seen a group of young teenagers, adult people even, sitting at a café or on a dinner not talking to each other, but totally engaged in their smart phones.

How freaking sad is that?

It is also very rude. How can you rather check your Facebook updates than socializing with the people in front of you..? This is when it gets twisted and unhealthy to me!

I do not know how many times I have been forced to tell my friends to please put their phones away and actually pay attention to what I am trying to tell them. To be physically with ME in the moment and not on their social media accounts. It is so upsetting when you are trying to share something and they are scrolling their Instagram images checking for likes.

When Did Humankind Become So Obsessed and Self-Centered That They Have to Post Images Of Themselves In Different Poses and Count the Number Of Likes and Comments the Pictures Get?

My thought is; is anyone even interested in what I look like when I am cooking or taking out the trash? Maybe a bad example, but I guess you get my point. You probably also understand that I do not use my Instagram account anymore.

I used to when I was professionally active as a dancer for promotion. For marketing purposes, social media’s like Instagram, is good.

What to Do In This World When You Do Not Have Internet? Make a Living from Home in 2017I am not claiming that I am totally innocent. I do post a selfie now and then on Facebook when I feel extra good about myself – maybe with my makeup done differently and I liked the way it came out, or with a set of earrings I want to show my friends.

Mostly, I post pictures of my babies (my dogs) and am trying to fight against animal abuse and cruelty. I am trying to share information and have my friends sign petitions to help animals.

I keep my facebook closed (except for my political animal rights work) and only have a small number of my true friends, not thousands I really do not know anything about.

I believe many people forget the risks with having lots of “friends” following your every move. They get to see pictures of your family and private life and you have no idea what kind of person is at the other end and what they will do with the information.

It was cool when Facebook started to have as many “friends” as possible, but not anymore.

And For God’s Sake Do Not Post When You Are Going On Vacation! It Is Like Hanging a Sign On the Door Saying; We Are In Spain For 2 Weeks, Please Feel Free to Rob Our House.

I see people doing this mistake all the time. I understand that you want to share fun times with your friends, but if so, you have to make sure to only have true friends and close down your settings to private, and your information is less likely to get in the wrong hands of someone with bad intentions.

For me Facebook is good to stay in touch and involved with my friends and family back home in Sweden. I am also using it to market my businesses.

However, there are some other negative aspects with it as well..

Log On to Facebook and Become Depressed

What to Do In This World When You Do Not Have Internet? Make a Living from Home in 2017What will the future look like?

I cannot help wondering, will it be even worse with no “real” face-to-face – person-to-person conversations anymore, or can it be that people will be feed up with all social media and the “FAKE perfect” world people display on them?

If you want to become depressed, log on to Facebook and see how utterly perfect everyone’s life seems to be.

A friend from my past (back home in Sweden) used to complain how bad her relationship was and how close her and her boyfriend were to break up from their continuous fights and disappearing glow in the bedchamber, but on Facebook she always posted cute, so to seem happy pictures, with them kissing.

How peculiar right?

If you would not know the truth you would think they were the happiest couple in the world. Social media gives such a fake world-view many times that it can be unhealthy for many that may go through hard times in life.

In fact, life is about hard times and how you face them, how you pick yourself back up and move on. For most people it is not a golden gate, or a bed full of roses. That is just what social media and other media channels in general make us believe.

Believe me, I know! I am a survivor of many misfortunes, but I am determined to always get back up and move ahead towards something better. If you want to read about my hard times in life to see that you are not alone, you can check out this blog post:

When Life Sucks and You Need a Little Help and Motivation

What I mean is that it may not be good to spend too much time on social media if you feel a bit lost and blue. Try devoting yourself to an activity people used to engage in before the World Wide Web, which I hardly remember right now sad as it is..

No, but seriously speaking. Luckily I do engage in “off Internet” activities on a daily basis when I take out my dogs for walks in nature parks, and while doing my workouts. Otherwise, I would be totally lost, since my work is online.

There are also other health risks related to the Internet era that I have started to experience during the last couple of years spending too many hours in front of the computer. Chiropractors call it text neck.

When you are sitting hunched down over a lap top or a smart phone for hours, you are putting enormous pressure on the neck. In fact, it is like having a bag of 60 extra kilos on your neck and that takes its toll after a while.

I often get pain in my neck and shoulders, and too often bad headaches, which are common symptoms in today’s digital/smartphone world.

Yes, I know I sound like the typical chiropractor assistant right now and I do actually have a chiropractor as my client, so that is why I know all of this. I handle their marketing, website/SEO and write chiropractic and health related articles on a weekly basis for them – Nachmias Chiropractic.

The best you can do to prevent this is to go and get regular chiropractic adjustments to realign the spine again. It will relieve you from pain right away. I do this myself.

What to Do In This World When You Do Not Have Internet? Make a Living from Home in 2017How did I get in on this subject? Well, for this blog post I did not have any special theme to stick to.

I just wanted to write down my frustrations of not having WiFi and feeling handicapped by it.

I managed to stay somewhat constructive today at least while preparing this post for tomorrow when I hopefully have an Internet connection again. It feels weird to not be able to upload my material to my website and having to stop right here, with my Word copy.

Anyhow, what would you do on a day without Internet? Would it bother you, or do you live a different lifestyle where it is not needed as much?

If you have anything to share with me about this subject, or anything else, please do so in the comment section below. I would love to hear from you.

Take good care of yourselves and stay sane!:-)
