You are constantly reminded that affiliate marketing is a long term project – not an easy get-rich-quick solution. A true statement. I started blogging about 2 years ago and it is FINALLY starting to pay off. The question is…is it worth the effort? Let me share my experience.
To be honest, it has been more work than I expected when first starting out. Hours of contemplating good blog topics, hours and hours of content writing and hours of adding affiliate links and ads.
There are tons of competition from other bloggers on Google and they are continuously increasing in number. This, as a result of the growing use of the Internet and people who are working remotely.
To beat your competition, you have to be mindful of the SEO aspect when composing your blog content.
However, I would advice to not place too much focus on keyword research and make it decide what topics you are blogging about. The articles can come out a bit “stiff and pale” if you do not have the heart in what you are writing about.
If you stay active and are frequently posting new articles, composing relevant and interesting content, you are going to rank on search engines and be able to compete with other affiliates anyhow.
Try To Solve A Problem For Your Readers
A crucial apect to becoming a successful affiliate marketer/blogger is to always “solve a problem” for the readers. One way of problem-solving is to offer well written product reviews and reviews of different programs, services etc.
When I started blogging, I felt the review niche was a bit over-saturated so I went in another direction instead. I am still trying to “solve a problem” with providing tips on jobs you can work with remotely from home and I am researching websites and online magazines where you can submit your articles as a freelance writer etc.
Another strategy, I decided to go for that came natural to me was to be open and transparent with my mistakes. I am trying to help people to avoid the mistakes I have had the misfortune to experience as an eCommerce seller, using methods like: private labeling my own product and selling it with the Amazon FBA Program, dropshipping and online retail.
People tend to appreciate transparency and need motivation to still push through with their business efforts even when it gets hard.
There will always be people out there who are running into the same problems as you. They will, most likely, Google solutions on how to solve their problem and if you have posted an article/blog post on how you solved the issue, they will find your blog and hopefully also return to it if they found it helpful.
The First Step Is To Create A Website
There are many ways to work with affiliate marketing and also many affiliate programs out there that offer good commissions for you to market their products. But first, you have to create your own website/blog, so you have a platform to market the programs you are affiliating with.
You Need A Website/Blog To Be Able To Market Different Affiliate
Programs And Products
There are many platforms you can use, which offer pre-made and designed websites you easily can add your text content and images into. One of these platforms is Shopify.
With Shopify, you can choose from lots of web designs and even build your own eCommerce store. Shopify offers 24 hours support all days in the week, so you cannot fail creating your website/blog using their plaform.
If you are a bit more advanced in working with websites and understand a little bit of coding and plugins, WordPress is a great option. Absolutely the best platform if you ask me. You can choose from tons of free WordPress themes and use various WordPress plugins for extra customization.
If you do not wish to take the time needed to create your own website/blog, I can help you to develop your website. With my web design/marketing business, Face It Design & Marketing, we offer web design, search engine optimization (SEO), graphic design, E-Marketing and social media marketing.

What Will It Take To Succeed As An Affiliate Marketer?
The simple answer is LOTS of HARD WORK, TIME and EFFORT! You need to prepare yourself you are working towards a long-term goal and not just quick-and-easy money.
The time aspect is the most difficult as an affiliate. Many people expect too much too soon and get disappointed when they do not see results during their first year.
I am not saying you will not see ANY results your first year, just that it will not be enough to make a living from the first year or two.
The more you produce good content – find high paying affiliate programs and are monetizing your blog – the more you will make. There are affiliate marketers out there who are making $10.000+ per month. You need to have the ambition to make as much (or more) to cope with the slow financial progress you will experience as a start-up.

A Red Flag!
I have to wave the red flag for a common mistake people are making when they start out with affiliate marketing – a waste of time if you ask me. Let me develop this further…
You may want to start out with an affiliate marketing training program to get the basic “know hows” of the business. These programs (listed in the article above about affiliate marketing training) are charging you a monthly fee to take part in their education.
The education is pretty good (in most cases), but do not fall for the part where they suggest promoting their program. Not only is this a waste of time, since so MANY affiliates are already doing this, but they do not even have the decency to discount the monthly fees for marketing them and trying to recruit affiliates to their program. They get tons of visibility online for FREE and you get nothing, to very little back in return.
I fell for this when starting my affiliate marketing journey, but I could not even get one person to sign up for the program. I spent hours and hours writing articles and marketing the program for NOTHING in return. If they had discounted the monthly fee during this time, it would have been worth some of the effort in exchange of free education. The program I tried to market was the Wealthy Affiliate University. Not recommended!
